Kaifeng, September 11, 2015 – A delegation of four members from Victoria University, including Brendan McCarthy (Vice Director, VU College), Michael Ratcliff (Director of Strategic Development), Rashima Ghai (Director of Transnational Education Program), and George Yue (Transnational Education Program Manager), accompanied by Wang Tao (the Director of Beijing Offcie of VU), visited Henan University. Dean Prof. Zhao Xinshun warmly welcomed the delegation and greeted them on behalf of Vice President Prof. Zhao Guoxiang.
The two sides held extensive discussions and reached consensus on a series of issues, including (1) English teaching reform, which consists of improving students’ listening abilities, the changed assessment and marking system of ECT, (2) providing more English language classes, (3) the time adjustment of lectures by foreign professors of Computer Science and Business programs, and (4) the complete course cooperation of Computer Science and Business programs.
During the visit, accompanied by the leadership of the IEC, the delegation met over 600 newly enrolled students who were receiving military training. In the meeting, Brendan McCarth, Vice Director of VU College made a passionate speech for the students. Students representatives asked questions about English language learning, core curriculum, and the requirements for studying overseas. All the questions were directly in English, making the training playground an international communication platform. The questions made the delegation members excited and speak highly of the qualities of IEC students. The students also realized the importance of learning English. Many students promised that they would study English and their core courses diligently, so that they could meet the requirements of Henan University and Victoria University.
